Mast Stepping & Rig Tuning
Armaci supports mast stepping, unstepping and rig tuning for yacht maintenance and refit work in Phuket. We discuss the yacht, access, lifting arrangements and related rigging requirements before planning the job.
Experienced in new yacht commissioning
We regularly install new masts and standing rigging on Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot and Excess catamarans, as well as Beneteau, Bavaria, Hanse and other yachts. Our commissioning work includes mast installation, rigging setup and final tuning.
Electronic rig tension measurement in Phuket
Our riggers will accurately measure and record your rigging loads.
Armaci uses the latest-generation electronic rig measurement equipment alongside industry-standard manual tension gauges. We measure and tune 1×19 stainless steel wire, compacted-strand wire such as Dyform, rod rigging and other wire constructions, selecting suitable instruments and calibration profiles for the material, size and load.
Electronic readings help us establish a measured baseline for your yacht’s rig. We combine tension measurements with mast alignment, rig geometry and the mast or rigging manufacturer’s guidance when planning adjustments.
Measurement range: Our electronic device specifies 5–20 mm steel cable, rod sizes −6 to −60, and a maximum gauge tension of 8,000 kg.

Industry-standard manual measurement devices
We also carry industry-standard manual rig tension gauges and measurement devices. We select the appropriate electronic or manual instrument for the rigging construction, diameter, access and task. This gives us practical measurement options across different yacht rigs, rather than relying on a single gauge for every application.
Recorded settings for future rig tuning
We can record the measurements taken during our work and compare them at future tuning visits. A yacht-specific record can include the date, rigging position, wire or rod construction, size, measured tension and adjustments made. Digital readings can be logged and exported for the work record; relevant manual readings and observations can be added alongside them.
These records provide a baseline for repeatable settings, maintenance checks and later adjustments. Comparing readings under similar rig configurations and measurement conditions helps identify changes and supports informed tuning decisions over time.
Preparing for mast work
Mast handling requires suitable equipment, access and coordination with the relevant marina or boatyard. Existing rigging, electrical connections and associated fittings need to be considered within the agreed scope.
Rig setup and tuning
Following installation or rigging changes, tuning helps establish alignment and appropriate tension for the yacht’s rig. Requirements vary with rig design and manufacturer guidance.
